How worried should we be about disinformation? How worried are you? Disinformation is a new style of warfare -- it is fought using words, not guns. It can influence elections and destabilize governments. Nina Jankowicz, an internationally acclaimed expert, will take us into the world of disinformation campaigns revealing how they work and, more importantly, how to counter them. She emphasizes what is at stake: the future of democracy and the value of truth itself.
Ms. Jankowicz has advised governments and testified before Congress. Her book: “How to Lose the Information Wars” was named a “New Statesman 2020 book of the year.” She documented how Russia, a major player in the disinformation game, developed its game plan by experimenting on countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Nina Jankowicz carefully monitored these governments as they valiantly struggled but ultimately failed to counter this powerful new type of aggression.
President Biden appointed her to chair the Department of Homeland Security’s newly formed and short-lived Disinformation Governance Board which was dismantled because of … disinformation. As Nina Jankowicz puts it, “.… no matter what your political party is, no matter what political inclination you have, this is a threat to democracy.”
Ms. Jankowicz will have just returned from Ukraine when she speaks to us.
The Event is Free, but Registration is Required.
