Membership Renewal
Fiscal Year End, June 30
| | | For many members, especially long term members, your membership needs to be renewed at the end of the fiscal year, June 30. If you are one of those, you have probably already received a reminder; but if you are unsure, you can check your renewal date on our local website, lwvsonoma.org , in you personal profile. The new portal uses you email to log on, rather than a password. Since this is a new process, if you find it a bit tricky and need help, you can contact Juanita Roland at communications@lwvsonoma.org . There is a League prepared instruction manual in the reference section of our website.

Protect Our Constitutional Rights
A Constitutional Convention -- an "Article V Convention" -- can be called for by a state for any reason. BUT - even a convention called for a specific purpose could spin out of control. There are no rules to limit what can be proposed or changed, giving powerful special interests free rein to rewrite the Constitution behind closed doors. Former Chief Justice Warren Burger warned: “There is no way to effectively limit or muzzle the actions of a Constitutional Convention.”
|
Senate Joint Resolution 1 (Wiener), sponsored by the League of Women Voters of California, would rescind all of California’s prior calls for an Article V Constitutional Convention. In today’s political climate, where extremist forces are actively seeking to undermine democracy, California’s open calls for a convention offer a direct pathway to chaos. California has seven open calls on the books—each one an open invitation to dismantle the Constitution. SJR-1 is our chance to close that door before it’s too late.

| Tell Congress Not to Gut Medicaid
Congress is currently considering a budget package that would slash Medicaid funding, putting millions of Americans at risk of losing access to health care.
Medicaid, a joint federal and state program, is the single largest source of health coverage in the country. Nearly 72 million Americans, including children, pregnant people, parents, seniors with limited incomes, and people with disabilities, rely on Medicaid for essential care, including doctor visits, hospitalizations, long-term care, maternity care, mental health care, and rural clinic services.

Medicaid ensures Americans have access to basic health care regardless of their economic status or disability. Cuts to the program will almost assuredly threaten care for vulnerable populations and leave millions uninsured.
The League believes that every US resident should have access to a basic level of quality health care at an affordable cost. Medicaid is essential to protecting the health and dignity of Americans, including new moms and children, seniors, and people with disabilities. Medicaid expansion has been imperative in insuring millions of Americans previously in a coverage gap.
We must protect Medicaid for the millions who rely on it. Tell Congress not to endanger the health of our country.
Tell Congress not to gut Medicaid.
