Contact Your Representatives | | | Oppose the SAVE Act Suite of Bills
Congress continues to introduce bills that would require voters to present documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC) to register and/or vote, including the SAVE America Act, the Safeguard Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), and the Make Elections Great Again Act (MEGA).
The SAVE Act would create one more barrier to the voting process, as many eligible voters do not have easy access to the necessary documents. Click here to tell Congress to reject anti-voter policies.

Calling on Congress to Investigate ICE’s Use of Force
|
The League of Women Voters of California urges Congress to immediately investigate ICE’s use of force, deployment tactics, and potential violations of civil and constitutional rights. Oversight is not optional—it is a fundamental responsibility.
We encourage all members and supporters to contact their members of Congress and demand:
|
- A full and transparent congressional investigation into ICE’s conduct;
- Accountability for any violations of civil rights or misuse of federal authority; and
- Immediate steps to ensure federal agencies respect constitutional protections and democratic norms.

| Tell Senators: Vote YES on SB1105 to Protect Californians' Rights and Freedoms
What Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are doing across the country, and right here in California, is deeply troubling. In addition to sending federal troops onto our streets, the Trump Administration is trying to commandeer state and local police to act through federal task forces. This risks using California resources in ways that support racially discriminatory immigration enforcement activities, violating our laws and threatening our rights.
For more than a century, the League of Women Voters has championed civil rights, democratic participation, and equal justice for all Californians. You can help us protect that vision and progress by helping pass SB 1105 (Perez).
SB 1105, The Protect California Rights Act, responds to harms being perpetrated by the Trump Administration and DHS agents, and protects Californians by:
- Prohibiting state and local law enforcement agencies from entering into joint task forces or interagency agreements that assist racial or identity profiling, criminalization of speech, or use of unauthorized weapons of war.
- Ensuring that California does not give federal law enforcement officers acting beyond their federal jurisdiction broad power to stop and arrest Californians.
California’s law enforcement resources were built by and for California’s communities. They should be directed toward public safety, equal justice, and the protection of constitutional rights - not repurposed to advance a federal enforcement agenda that treats entire communities as suspect. SB 1105 draws that line clearly and firmly. | Urge the Assembly Member to PASS AB 1958 to Strengthen the Racial Justice Act
California enacted the landmark Racial Justice Act in 2020 to confront racial bias in the criminal courts and provide remedies when bias is proven. Six years later, the League of Women Voters of California is still standing alongside coalition partners to refine the RJA to ensure the original intent is fulfilled. Help us pass AB 1958.
AB 1958 (Kalra) improves procedures for establishing a disparity claim under the RJA and makes clarifications to existing law to increase efficiency and provide consistent guidance to courts across the state. Specifically, this bill:
- Provides more clarity on how disparity claims are proven
- Ensures data will be shared efficiently
- Restates that the RJA applies to all parts of the criminal legal process.
Racism - whether intentional, implicit, or institutional - is intolerable and undermines true justice. The RJA was a historic step toward confronting racial bias in our courts, but clearer standards and guidelines are needed to reinforce the Legislature’s intent that equal justice prevail. As co-sponsors of both the original RJA, the Racial Justice Act for All, and now, AB 1958, LWVC remains deeply committed to ensuring the law works as intended.
