Why the First Amendment Still Matters

The most basic of human rights are covered by the First Amendment.  In fact, the Supreme Court has consistently held that constitutional rights like freedom of speech, religion, and assembly apply to all people within the territory of the United States, regardless of their citizenship or immigration.  And yet, the First Amendment is being challenged every day.

A panel of Sonoma County leaders will discuss the impact of the First Amendment on Sonoma County today and in the future. You’ll hear legal, local government, public library and public media perspectives.  Bring your questions and join us!

Continuing through the summer, the League of Women Voters of California and California Common Cause are hosting a webinar series on our primary election reform work. Each webinar will feature coalition members leading an educational presentation on the importance of primary election reform and how our proposed policy would improve voter participation. This information will help you and your members take action in your communities, educate others, and build local support for primary election reform.

 

Join us for our second webinar in the series on June 24th, from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm, featuring an educational panel discussion.

The Voter Services Committee is actively recruiting volunteers to conduct candidate forums prior to the November election.   Training sessions will be scheduled during July.  Contact Eleni Misthos at Elections@LWVSonoma.org.
