Advocacy Committee Meeting
Join us online at our regular monthly Advocacy meeting. This is an opportunity for our League to learn about the Sonoma County General Plan and contribute our voice to this timely process.  Sonoma County is in the midst of developing their General Plan Update, something that occurs every 20 years.  The board of Supevisors will meet September 15 to hear community input on their priorties.

Rue Furch, an environmental activist, has been working with a network of groups to develop General Plan Update priorities. The General Plan lays down goals with enforceable policies, uses of land, and implementations that will have consequences into many future generations. Link here to attend.

Super El Niño Town Hall - Separating Fact from Fiction.

View El Nino Town Hall Live

A historic Super El Niño event is continuing to build off the California coast. This Super El Niño is raising alarm bells among scientists and meteorologists about the potential for larger and more destructive winter storms, significant late season flooding events, ocean-based heat waves, and enhanced summertime monsoonal moisture which could bring lightning to fire-prone regions of Northern California.

While there's been a lot of hype around this potential major weather event, we want to separate fact from fiction and give you the straight scoop about what you can expect this fall and winter, when experts predict it will hit, and how challenging conditions may be.

We're assembling an all-star panel of the nation's best and brightest weather and ocean experts, including one of America's top climate scientists, Dr. Daniel Swain, to give us the very latest. These experts will also do a deep dive into this fall's forecast, while detailing disaster readiness and the most important steps that neighbors can take to prepare.

Action Items

LWV Unite and Rise
Unite and Rise
for Voting Rights

Get involved from afar.

Whether you can't make an in-person event or you want to get involved beyond August 8, there are plenty of ways to Unite and Rise from home! In particular, we're asking folks to:

  1. Send a letter to your representatives on issues that matter, like voting rights, equality, and more!
  2. Check your voter registration to ensure you're prepared for the 2026 midterms!
  3. Spread the word about Unite and Rise and invite a friend to join the movement!

Oppose the Voter ID Act

Americans do not need MORE
obstacles to vote.

Congress continues to introduce bills that would create unnecessary barriers to voting by requiring voters to present documents like government-issued photo IDs to vote.

For more information about the LWV's position on Voting Rights and to send a message to Congress, click below.

Oppose the Death Penalty

Urge Governor Newsom to use his executive authority now to grant universal clemency to all with death sentences.
