Join us as we kick off the new year!
 
Come cool down with the LWV of Sonoma County!
 
Please join us on September 19th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM to kick off the new LWV year with a picnic and a swim!  A brief meeting will provide insight on what's new with the league and the upcoming elections.  The remainder of the afternoon is totally social. 
 
Bring a friend who might be interested in joining the League.  Members will be required to register for this event, but please add friends at the time you register.  Food and beverages will be provided.  Don't forget to bring your suit and towel.

Pros and Cons of all the Statewide Propositions and County-Wide Measures.

Demystify your ballot.  Get an indepth look at each proposition and learn what a "yes" vote means and what a "no" vote actually means.  Registration for in person events is encouraged, but Registration is required for the Virtual Event.

California's 4th U.S. Congressional District
Thursday, October 8th

The League of Women Voters of Yolo County (LWVYC) will hold a public, nonpartisan CA Congressional District 4 Candidate Forum.  The top-two primary vote winners, Eric Jones and Mike Thompson, will join the League moderator for a 90-minute discussion of district opportunities and challenges.

Woodland Channel 21 will broadcast and record the forum.

This is a non-partisan forum.  No campaign banners, signs, literature, handouts, buttons, tee shirts, or other campaign paraphernalia will be allowed in the forum meeting room.
 
Congressional Districts were redrawn under Proposition 50 earlier this year.  Voters in Sonoma County in one of three districts; District #1, District#2 or District#4.  Verify your voting district by inputting your address on this CalMatters website.      CalMatters Congressional District Map

10/10 115th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage Celebration at Sonoma State Historic Park 11-2. Contact Chris at  youth@lwvsonoma.org

Spread the word about this remarkable campaign that helps the public refresh knowledge of their rights so they can see how they related to current events and be inspired to VOTE THEIR VALUES.
 
Thanks to those who purchased our signs.  Because of you, our investment has been paid back.  So, now we can offer them for free.  Please encourage your friends to bring civics knowledge to their neighborhoods in time for the midterm election.

The Sonoma County Civil Grand Jury Needs You!
The Sonoma County civil grand jury is still looking for alternate jurors.  Several LWV members at the recent grand jury luncheon expressed interest in applying to the grand jury.  Here is your chance.  Extra jurors are needed in the event regular jurors are unable to fulfill their role for any reason.   For more information and to apply, go to: 
 
 
Fight for Democracy
California Voting Rights Act (CVRA) of 2026
 
Our opportunity to fight back, to protect voters of color, and to strengthen democracy.
Democracy is under attack.  From the recent U.S. Supreme Court Callais decision that severly weakened federal protections against racial vote dilution, to federal efforts to dismantle the landmark Voting Rights Act (VRA), to existing voting discrimination against communities of color in California, voting rights are facing a pivotal moment.
 
SB 1164 responds directly to the federal attacks on our voting rights by preventing voting discrimination, promoting fair participation, and expanding opportunities for communities of color to have a meaningful ability to elect candidates of choice.
 
SB 1360 would enshrine in-language voting materials requirements of the federal VRA into California law.  This is essential to protecting millions of limited-English voters as voting rights continue to be threatened.

Oppose the SAVE Act
 
Americans do not need more obstacles to Vote!
The freedom to vote is fundamental and nonnegotiable. For more than a century, the League of Women Voters has fought to expand voter access, not restrict it. We urge the Senate to reject the SAVE America Act and any legislation that makes it harder for people to exercise their constitutional right to vote.”
